What is split testing in digital marketing?

Split testing (also referred as A/B split testing) is a method where you compare your website or landing page or squeeze page or sales page with the same identical website or landing page or squeeze page or sales page by making small changes in it just to know which one is converting better.

In other words, you can say it is a test that we do between Website A and Website B with a small changes just to know which one is converting better.

So overall by doing split testing, you get to know what’s working on your website or landing page or squeeze page or sales page and what’s not working.

And later on according to the stats which you get while doing split testing, you scale or keep your winner campaign and remove the looser one. Got it!

How to do split testing in Digital Marketing?

Here I will give you an example so that it would be very easy for you to understand how to do split testing.

So let’s just say that a hundred people go to your website or sales page. ‍

So here what you do…..you fix your split testing software to show one variation of your website or sales page with a particular message to 50 people.

And further, you fix your split testing software for remaining 50 people to show another variation of your website or sales page with different message.

I mean, out of 100 people, 50 people may see, “Hey, buy my skin cream. It’s going to make you look younger.”

The other 50, “Hey, buy my skin cream. It’s going to help you. It’s going to take away your itch and you’re going to actually see.”

You will begin to see which message resonates better.

Oh…. five people bought from this very first message and 20 people bought from this very second message. ‍

So now you have data.

Now let me ask you a question!

According to above said data where with first message you got 5 sales and with another message on your website you got 20 sales, so which message you want to keep on your website?

Hummmmm!

I think I know your answer……

Is it second one?

Yes, of course it is second message on your website where you got 20 sales and you want to keep that message on your website. Right?

So this is how you split testing on your website or landing in digital marketing.

Point To Note: Not only you can do the split test with format of landing page or website but you can also do the split test with messages on the website or landing page or sales page, with the subject head line in the emails, call to action button on the website or landing page etc.

So in conclusion to that I would say that you let the audience or people dictate to you what they want and you could do that through split testing.

It’s like a doctor. If your website is broken and you’re not making a lot of money, your email is not making money, it can only be a handful of things.

With split testing you can diagnose. Maybe it’s your emails that are not converting, maybe it’s a call to action.

Or maybe you can do one split test that says, “Buy now!”

Maybe the other split test is “Get relief now!”

Maybe that resonates a lot more than “Buy now!”

Test, tweak and scale. And I’m not a techy person, but I’m telling you this is super simplistic.

Test it. Turns out 2 people bought in one message and 10 people bought in the other message.

OK, good. Then you tweaked it. You’re gonna change your message to on the one that didn’t do so good, now you’re going to scale.

Now you’re going to send more money that way.

The good news is, it’s not rocket science.

The problem is when people have no clarity and they’re lost and they don’t know what to fix.

One of my favorite things about Internet marketing is it can only be a handful of things.

Start split testing. Identify what’s wrong, fix it, scale up.
